but so far
I completed the gloves. I really, truly like them. I do like how they look like, but the fit this time seems to be what I hoped for. There is enough room for some extra air for good insulation but they are not too big to feel uncomfortable.
I like how the cuff is stable and firm due to the crocheted fabric and I am happy too that I kept the decorating to minimum although I did think about adding some embroidery, but just a little bit. I used 2mm hook and 2mm knitting needles and the off white yarn was Finnwool (singles) and the purple Jawoll Magic Superwash.
Ice Fantasia is resting at the moment. I have added few repeats to the edging but nothing big to talk about because since the gloves I have surrounded myself with the beauty of decorative crocheting and knitting.
This will hopefully end up as a sweater in a few weeks. I am using stash yarn, Sandnes Garn Sisu - hoping to accomplish that through the process - so I have been throwing in all sorts of ends of various balls. I did not go out to buy new stuff for this because I know this will be a practice piece, I am bound to make lots of mistakes (I have already) and my crocheting skills are most likely going to improve through the process and with yarn that I like but have not really bought for this project I am hoping to be able to ignore some of the mistakes and just follow along.
Sometimes special yarn can make you too careful and fussy. This is a pattern called Ässänväärä from the book Decorative Crocheting.
Woo with you,
Lene
That is really very beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYou are joking about being a beginner at crocheting -- right? Your work is so beautiful! Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteVery lovely.
ReplyDeleteI like the dark, crocheted trim above your crocheted cuff on the mitten. Very pleasing proportions.
So pretty... you are the fine yarn princess of the North.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful gloves! Will a pattern be coming??
ReplyDeleteTruly beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLene, if you are not inclined to write up the glove pattern (I know it's a tedious task), perhaps you could just briefly explain how you constructed the cuff? I see the idea but I know it would take me hours and hours to figure it out! They are so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIncredibly exquisite, I am in complete awe!! S.
ReplyDeleteVery nice knitting. Excuse me butting in as a newbie to your blog, but I found it looking for help with a Finnish knitting pattern. I think I have most of it figured out, but am not sure of what the "M" and "W" in the chart mean. The M is not where I expect a "make one", and the W is between to yarn overs so would not be a "wrap". Thank you.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful gloves, Lene.
ReplyDeleteThose are beautiful, and I so like the colors you used. Any chance of a pattern?
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful gloves with so nice colours! Congratulations!-And your knit/crochet project looks so w o n d e r f u l , too! I deeply admire your creativity.
ReplyDeleteI love the colorful knit/crochet combinations. I just knitted my sons mittens with (knitted) corrugated rib cuffs, and I, too, love the stable, thick fabric there.
ReplyDeleteThose are very handsome cuffs and the decorative crochet is beautiful! You truly never do anything "ordinary"!
ReplyDeleteYou have such a wonderful eye for color and such talent in your hands! I am always in awe of your work.
ReplyDeleteDeep, gutteral, envious sigh. Your work is so beautiful, Lene, and your stitches...they're so even they look like they've already been blocked when they're still on the needles.
ReplyDeleteBut mostly, you write about knitting with an enthusiasm that inspires me to work harder at my own projects.
GORGEOUS and tasteful use of crochet with knitting - congratulations!
