First I spun some Merino, singles s, plied as z. I plied a little bit mixing blue and green but mostly kept the colors separate. The yarn came out quite uneven but I did not let it bother me at all. It seems to me that if I don't spin for a long time it sort of goes out of fingers, like piano playing. You have to practise first to get into good shape.
Then I got out my 2.25 mm luxury Lantern Moon needles. And cast on for a glove. I did not think too much beforehand, I had in my mind twined gloves with some embroidery.
Completed the gloves and drew a picture for the Finnish lesson and thought that I would use the same flower motif for the mitten back. But I guess I exhausted myself with that pattern because I did not get it to settle nicely into this glove.
I had to find something else. Did not do any sketch just picked up the needle and did this simple flower...
The cuff felt a bit loose and big so I crocheted a chain. Here the action shoot. (Forgive my worn cardi...)
Why is it that when you really don't try very hard, everything happens so easily. There was no pain (just very little with the first embroidery motif), the gloves just happened. And then on some other time you are fighting the windmills in every possible corner.
I really needed this.
PS. I will update the last post and have the inside of the mitten there soon. The complicated and beautiful mittens were Estonian mittens from last summers Nordic Knitting Symposium that was held in Estonia.
You embroider SO beautifully, Lene! I wish I could have just one drop of your talent.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely exquisite. Thank you for sharing them with us.
ReplyDeleteI love your small decorations as stars or flowers, just giving the mitten an interesting view.So sofisticated.

Truly wonderful. I admire your speed and talent. Can't imagine 'just' doing something; I always have to pour over the pattern, but maybe it's about just letting go and experimenting? Anyway, well done.
ReplyDeleteWell, it is beautiful! I am not original by saying that... Anyway, I love it.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful spontaneous knitting! Just what I look for in my projects - gauge, smauge! I am definitely going to borrow your design.
ReplyDeleteYour gloves are out of this world. You are so very talented to just start working and end up with something spectacular! You are my idol.
ReplyDeleteOh Lene, these are beautiful! I wish something so lovely would come out of my brain. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful post and beautiful work. I just took three minutes of my day here at work to read your post, and it always calms me in the middle of a hectic day.
ReplyDeleteThank you
What a wonderful lesson! I will try to remember it when I'm struggling with a project. The gloves are just lovely. You did a fine job.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely breathtaking! I am so glad you are back!
ReplyDeleteThese are lovely. I am amazed at your handspun yarn. The color of the embroidery complements it so nicely. I love picot edging in general and I must find another spot to use it soon!
ReplyDeleteYour giftedness with needles and pen has again taken my breath away!
ReplyDeleteMittens have always looked hard to do but you make it seem as though they're very simple. Somehow I suspect only because you are so skilled.
Those are perfectly lovely!
ReplyDeleteWauw, that's the only thing I could think off when I saw the gloves! They are wonderful! I should try embroidery, it's something I haven't done but it can look really nice!
ReplyDeleteAgain, love the gloves!!!
I would never have thought of putting the embroidery up the side of the hand like that. I really like that. Beautiful gloves.
ReplyDeleteReally really beautiful! They look so historical.
ReplyDeleteThose pink flowers up the side and the wristband of pink just make me happy inside :-) Beautiful.
ReplyDelete...just absolutely lovey!!!
ReplyDeleteLovely gloves! The colors, the embroidery, the picot cuffs-- all of your design elements work together so beautifully. I'd like to try some spontaneous designing/knitting myself, but I think I'm too nervous about it not coming out right and becoming frustrated to even try...
ReplyDeleteWonderful! And so delicate yet sturdy.
ReplyDeleteIts a very Zen philosophy- if you let something go, or not try too hard, things flow. The hard part is to let them.....

ReplyDeleteI love the delicate flowers, Lene! So beautiful! Too bad you will have to put them aside for several months now. :)
ReplyDeleteThe embroidery adds just the right touch of special feminity and elegance.
ReplyDeleteYou are an artist Lene..no doubt about it.I love your little sketches .As for the mittens..that was a master-stroke.
ReplyDeleteI always remember you as an artist, here is more reason why! Such wonderful work, so pleasing to look at and admire.
ReplyDeleteThose are art. Beautiful, wearable art.
ReplyDeleteThey look lovely and so warm looking.
ReplyDeleteLene, Lene - such beautiful work! Those gloves are a treasure. What do you do the embroidery with? I have lots of DMC cotton from cross stitching, but I get the feeling you are using something with a bit of silk in it! Please let us know! You are a very talented young woman and I hope you know it!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty. My new year's resolution was to improve my knitting skills, you have inspired me to try a pair of gloves...maybe even embroidered!
ReplyDeleteLene,
ReplyDeleteYou are a real artist! They are so perfect! (But please tell me you didn't knit them in just 3 days--since your previous post. That would make me feel just TOO hopeless.)
And I echo another commenters question: What did you use for embroidery thread?
Barbara from Massachusetts
A little late to the party but I just had to comment...What absolutely beautiful gloves! The flower motif and the colors are all so perfect!
ReplyDeleteAivan ihanat sormikkaat Lene!
