Dear,
Your comments always make me very happy – thank you for them!
I thought that I would have plenty to write to you by the end of my week alone about all kinds of creative pursuits and knitting, but here I am, with a few drawings and little bit of knitting and some not-so-good-photographs. I have spent some of my time in ancient Rome, since I found from the library last week detective stories by Steven Saylor. I have thoroughly enjoyed being transferred to different time and place. I have played with the dogs and walked with them. I have drunk lots of tea and have eaten more chocolate than is good to me. This week has been good to me but not to my knitting.
I promised to take pictures of my Moth Shawl. I have taken two sets of photos and neither of them turned out the way I would have liked them to. Actually, I took the pictures half-heartedly and did not really concentrate on the task. I guess there is time for everything, even for good pictures.
Without further excuses here is my Moth Shawl (4 skeins of Madil Kid Seta with 3½ mm needles). The shawl is beautiful. I played with the cast off edge a little. I wanted it to look like the edging in the sides and I think it turned out better than I thought it would. I used crochet hook and crocheted two chain stitches in between the cast-off stitches.
As lovely as lace shawls are, it is sweaters that keep swirling in my head again and again. I hope I have something new to show you next time. And in the mean time, be good to your sweaters.
Lene

That shawl is just gorgeous! I need something for a wedding next Fall and I think this may be the ticket!
ReplyDeleteOh wow...I LOVE the design with that green! Like a fuzzy, fluttery Luna moth. Gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI really like the edging you chose. Very simple, very effective. But I bet it required lots of pins! :-)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your drawings. The shawl is stunning too. If those are bad pictures, I'd pass out from the good ones!
ReplyDeleteMoth is beautiful and I really like the colors. Contrary to what you think about the photos, I think they're well done.
ReplyDeleteAgain, you have made a stunning knit! I simply adore it. What a beautiful yarn. Glad to hear from you again.
ReplyDeleteWool be with you.
Now that's a moth I'd love to have in my home! The shawl is a real beauty.
ReplyDeleteBe careful where you put those cheeks on the happy face sweaters. Hee Hee
ReplyDeleteYou might not be completely pleased with your photos but they all pretty much knocked my lights out, especially that first one, that's just dreamy and fresh at the same time.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully knit!
Heee, love the sweater drawings :^)
(I just had a few days all to myself and have hardly anything to show for it... that just happens sometimes,eh?)
Beautiful shawl, I love the sweaters drawing, the faces are so cute, what a lift that was.

ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing. Your shawl is beautiful! I am sure that you are very proud. I always enjoy your drawings very much. I hope it is ok with you, sometimes I choose one for my computer desktop. I enjoy looking at them very much.
ReplyDeleteThank you
Lise
That shawl is really lovely and Oh, how I love the drawing.
ReplyDeleteLene, that's beautiful! I've been mulling over that pattern for a little while and now I think I will have to add it to my "must-knit" list. And speaking of "musts," I'm visiting my parents this weekend and I plan to bake some pulla while I'm home. I've made it three times already and I have yet to come across a person who doesn't like it. Thank you so much for the recipe!
ReplyDeleteLene...the shawl is breath-taking! Oh, to knit such a beautiful project. I appreciate that you share your photographs and lovely drawings.
ReplyDeleteEven if the photos didn't turn out the way you wished, the shawl's beauty cannot be hidden. I love what you did to the border.
ReplyDeleteEach of your projects is more beautiful than the last! The picture in the snow looks like a fern peeking out of the snow! I LOVE the edging!
ReplyDeleteTruly stunning.
ReplyDeleteWhen I read your blog, I feel as though I'm peeking through a window into a different world--I love your photos, drawings, writing, and oh, yes--knitting! Thank you! Lorraine
ReplyDeleteYour shawl is lovely. I do like your little sweater drawings, they are my favourite knit too.
ReplyDeleteExquisite shawl! I'm glad you had such a lovely week.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you come up with next. Your beautiful sweaters drawing is promising...
you shawl is fantastic, after I saw it everything made by myself looks so poor...
ReplyDeleteLene, Just got to read your last two posts. The moth shawl is incredible. My goal would be to knit one similar someday. Right now I'm trying to work up to fingerless mittens like yours in PW magazine! This last week I knit a plain garter stitch pair just to get comfortable with the style. No, that is an excuse!!! I'll restate that! Just to see if I could even knit a plain pair of fingerless mitts.....they turned out wonderfully! Now, on to a more complicated design. Your little bird drawings are so enjoyable...sweet,sweet,sweet. Hopefully, you will look into how to market them someday! You can use knit or knitted without worry of being critiqued. We commentors are just so thrilled to have found your blog we don't care how you state it! Only to best to you and your family. Jeanie in Msla
ReplyDeleteThis is a gorgeous shawl!
ReplyDeleteHi again, do so love the shawl, I am just wanting so to start a lace shawl project. I did find some patterns, now for the finding the right yarn...the absolute FUN part...but, oh, I must finish my other projects atleast somewhat...Ha ha. See you soon...
ReplyDeleteHad to stop by again and take a peek. Your work is so wonderful, inspiring...
ReplyDeleteYour talent for drawing shows in your illustrations...love it!
The shawl is just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHow glad again to read your post ! Your shawl is a beauty, and the pictures of it are not bad, there's a kind of poetry in it, surely !
ReplyDeleteHave a softy wooly week !
Sandra.
Well you have done it. I am going to have to knit this one now. I have been holding off the whole lace thing for a while. But your shawl and your pics are just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBravo! Well done! Fantastic and beautiful work! I think the pictures turned out well also!
ReplyDeletewhat kind of camera do you use?
ReplyDeletebonnie
I think tea and too much chocolate sounds like a perfectly fine way to spend a week. The shawl is so fine and soft looking. Very, very beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI love your drawings. Have you considered selling your drawings on Etsy as knitters note cards or some other kind of cards...they are really adorable.
ReplyDeleteThe shawl is spectacular too.
Kathy
I love your drawings! Have you always drawn? They are creative and whimsical at the same time. Love the moth shawl, I am knitting the bee fields shawl by Anne. I love her patterns, they are filled with story.
ReplyDeleteExquisite -- well worth the effort of mohair. And I love the sketch of the winter sweater, can't wait to see more...
ReplyDeleteThe shawl draped over the snow is as delicate and delightful as leaves of a rowan tree which is how the lace patterning speaks to me.
ReplyDeletewow, absolutely beautiful shawl. I'm so inspired by it. It looks like it was such an epic project. But the beauty seems well worth any effort.
ReplyDeleteI think that your shawl is lovely even if you are not that happy with the photographs. I really like how you cast-off and I think the result really is in keeping witht he over-all pattern. Really quite lovely.
