Absolutely too warm for knee high socks.
The stocking model was not very happy to do photos but the supervisor did show up as he is way too curious to be left out of anything ...
Do you remember these knee highs? The grey ones got hidden away into a small bag earlier in the spring and the red ones later on after I discovered a knot in the yarn. These grey ones I'm quite happy with. I don't think there are many adjustments to do...(Poor girl has mosquito bites on her legs...)... but the red ones could be better. There is something that bothers me around the gusset and I might need to rework the foot. Otherwise the pattern is enjoyable, it is very easy to keep track on the decreases and to see how far I have got on the leg part. You can tell from the picture that today is no wool sock weather... Even the supervisor did not stay alert and passed out on the dry and yellow grass.
I don't know what it is about stockings that interests me so much now... Each one has really too many stitches and rows but I just know I need to cast on yet another pair.
PS. That was us sitting on the steps in Edinburgh. And no, I did not get to wear my new dress, she chose to be cruising the world with the rest of our clothing while we were in Edinburgh. And you are right, maybe I should not pack in the future but plan for some shopping for the necessary items only and be assured of the fact that very little is actually needed for a succesful trip.
Beautiful stocknings, I especially like the grey ones. The superwiser must be pleased.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful socks!
ReplyDeleteThe socks finished their time out, eh? They are beautiful and it looks like your supervisor is enjoying the warmth.
ReplyDeleteSukatkin on hienoja, mutta kissa on ihanan ilvesmäinen!
ReplyDeletePerhaps there is a little bit of looseness at the gusset on the red sock, but I think both pairs look great. Your poor cat--Kille? is probably wishing he had way less fur. Too bad cats don't enjoy cooling off in the lake, as dogs do.
ReplyDeletePoor kitty! Here in New England it is wonderfully cool--I slept in my flannel pajamas last night for the first time in months. I hope you cool off soon, too.
ReplyDeleteBoth socks are lovely, as always. I don't see anything wrong with the red ones, but the artist's eye is always the most critical! ;-)
Lovely socks! I've been feeling the need to cast on for a pair of these as well - maybe we can feel the change coming in seasons, before it's really here?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful stockings! Is the pattern from Holiday Knits or is it one of your own?
ReplyDeleteLove your cat - she knows how to relax! Maybe your dress could spend some time in Canada on Vancouver Island in a year or so! I am off on a plane three weeks from today, will I be lucky and need to buy a new wardrobe after I arrive. Hope Not!
Those are both lovely. Even in the "dead of winter" in Arizona, it's not cold enough for stockings like those. I'm a little jealous.
ReplyDeletei don't care WHY you need to knit stockings—i just love seeing them.
ReplyDeletejust this morning, i was thinking how you have inspired me to consider making high socks for myself (i am always cold from september through june . . . and i DO mean always.)
and then i read your post and there they are—wonderful!
so maybe that is why, lene . . .
The stockings are beautiful, as always! I'm glad to hear your trip was nice despite all the trouble with the luggage and the flights.
ReplyDeleteLovely stockings, as usual. I especially like the gray ones, although I honestly can't see anything wrong with the red ones.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the kitty's name?
Your stockings are really beautiful. There are some interesting ones in the latest issue of Vogue Knitting. Have you seen it?
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful knitting you do. I have just started knitting socks and at this point can only DREAM of being able to knit such patterns as you do
ReplyDeleteIt's always such a treat to read your posts. The stockings are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteAre you making up the patterns as you go, or go you have a basic knee-sock patterns stashed away?
I love those knee socks. You have inspired me to make some. Great Christmas presents.
ReplyDeleteI have a question for you. My husband accidently erased all of my bookmarks. I had marked a site with spectacular geometric knit blankets, in quilt type designs. I have the tikkelputto (sp??) site; the one I'm thinking of is another site on which the patterns are sold. Do you know of any such sites?
Thanks.
the socks look so deliciously cozy- it makes me want to fast forward to Fall!
ReplyDeleteStockings fascinate me too - particularly the notion of hiding so much of something so ornate. Like beautiful lingerie, I think.
ReplyDeleteI love your stockings--I, too, have been drawn to knitting them though they don't look too good on me. The grey ones, especially, are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteVoi, voi, the travel troubles you had! I am sorry it cast such a pall over your trip to Edinburgh, but I am glad you are home safe and sound. Oma koti kullan kallis.
I love the kneesocks! Lovely. They will be nice and warm, too.
ReplyDeleteI am knitting my first-ever kneesocks (not much call for them in Houston, but I decided I am a bluestocking so I needed blue lace kneesocks) and am knocked out by all the beautiful socks I've seen on your website.
ReplyDeleteAnd by the speed at which you seem to be able to knit them!
Your knitting supervisor is a charming fellow. I'd like to ruffle his fur, but I'll bet he would prefer that I didn't.
These stockings are really wonderful, especially the grey ones. Very stylish. There are a lot of people knitting socks but stockings...?
ReplyDeleteI´m thinking to make some of my own. Maybe your urge to knit stockings - apart from creating something unique - is due to the fact that you are starting a new fashion? ;-)
Love them!! The grey are my favorite too. The supervisor looks especially cute :)
ReplyDeleteYour furry supervisor would have completely melted here last week (35 C). All mine (1 dog, 2 cats)were sprawled out in front of fans, getting hosed down with water or laying on freezer packs. We people types were in the pool.
ReplyDeleteThose are just wonderful stockings. You're making me want to knit longer socks also.
Lene, welcome back, welcome back! So glad you enjoyed Edinburgh. Next time, go a little further south and come see us in Ireland! You have me quite hooked on socks, and especially these long, patterned ones. Do they keep you occupied in the long Lapland winter nights?
ReplyDeleteLove

Awwwww pretty kitty! What a cutie pie. *virtually pets* And I think the stockings look fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy reading your blog. I'm not sure which I enjoy more - seeing your projects or the stories of living so far north. Keep up the great blogs.
ReplyDeleteOh my god these are FANTASTIC! I especially love the gray ones. Is there a pattern? I'm completely obsessed with knee highs these days. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous stockings.
ReplyDeleteAnd I really like the little critter in your profile picture!
those are awesome!!!!
ReplyDeleteYour stockings are remarkable! Did you write the pattern yourself, or is it published? I'm really glad a friend's blog linked to yours. I've been toodling around your archives and i love your writing.
ReplyDeleteI'm here from Margene's link and love those grey socks. Do you have a pattern you used?
