For a long time now I have wanted to tell you about Kille, my faithful and loyal little man, also known as Mr Cat. At the high age of 18 years and a few months last January, exactly Jan 7th, I had to take him to the vet and he was put asleep. Now he is resting next to his dog companions Miina, Milla and Kukka. As much as I have wanted to tell you about this, it would have been so sad post that I have postponed it. He has been missed. For months I always expected to see him in the morning when coming downstairs, but not just me, Ruusu has missed him too. Kille had just lost Miina (our old black Labrador), who was his dear friend when Ruusu came to us. Ruusu was poorly for the first months of her life, we made frequent visits to the vet and I was very worried of her, but so was Mr Cat. He adopted her.
She was Kille's darling, every single morning he would wash her face, and he used to keep her still with his paw, she could not go until the job was done. If Ruusu got too wild and kept pestering us and if I would tell her to calm down, she would always go to Kille, because she knew, no matter what, Grandpa Cat was on her side. It was very touching to see how deeply they loved each other.
Ruusu is a cat-dog, in a way people are cat-persons
or dog-persons. For some time now, she has told me that she would very much
love to have a cat again (I am not sure if she had the cat, or if Mr Cat had a dog). She did not put it quite so bluntly, but this is what
she meant. We have talked about it a lot and have wanted to take all this time
to consider this carefully. I have explained to her, that he might not be
like Kille at all. And once he comes, he is a baby and she would need to take care
of him, very much the same way, Kille took care of her when she was a baby. And
she would need to share all the love, all her toys with the new little cat. She
would need to let him be the center of attention and she would need to learn to
wait for her turn. She insists that she understands this, but you all know how
it is when new pets come. Children are always eager at first...
Anyway, we finally came to a mutual
understanding and we (her and me) are getting a new kitten.

This is how he (platinum
Burmese) looks now, he was born November 19th and he comes to live with us in
the end of February. Doesn't he look lovable?
We cannot wait.
Wool with you,
Lene
(Ok, so next time: knitting!)
Oh those sweet faces! I'm sure they'll get along famously (eventually).
ReplyDeleteOh! What a cutie...I bet he will fit right in with everyone (animal and human). Your story reminds me of mine from a few years ago. It is so hard to lose a pet.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to know about the loss of your kitty. They are the same as human family members if you ask me.
ReplyDeleteA similar thing happened with us. We told our dog finally that we were getting him his own kitten, and he needed to take care of it. Those two were fast friends from the beginning, and are very devoted to each other - I hope your pup and kitten will be the same! And you know that your animals in heaven are all glad that the pup will have his own friend again. :-)
Oh wonderful. Hard to wait so long.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm sorry about your losing Mr. Cat, that is so hard to say goodbye to a beloved pet, but it sounds like he had such a good life with you and his canine buddy. What a cutie the kitten is :-) so much fun ahead for you all!
ReplyDeleteCats vs knitting...really the same topic, yes? Everybody, including the dog need a cat. Helen
ReplyDeleteMr. Cat sounds like a truly exceptional cat. I hope you and Ruusu have a lot of fun with the new kitten.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry for your loss, and understand why it could take a good long time to want to talk about it.
ReplyDeleteThe new boy looks adorable.
May he and Ruusu turn out to be good buddies!
He is adorable. What will he be called?
ReplyDeleteMy sympathies for your loss. What lovely relationship between cat and dog. He will be missed, but your new kitten will help ease the transition!
ReplyDeleteSuch a touching story; we humans have nothing over animals in the relationships department!
ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful story. I too have a big orange cat and he is the sweetest cat in the world! I am glad you have this beautiful kitten to love, I am sure all will go well and I look forward to hearing about and seeing pictures of his homecoming.
ReplyDeleteWill look forward to the progress of the new relationship. I am in love with your new kitty. What a nice treat!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely kitten, who will be a wonderful companion to both you and Ruusu.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for the loss of your beautiful, Mr. Cat. There's something very special about big orange cats. I'm sure the new kitten will make Ruusu very happy and I can't wait to hear all about their escapades.
ReplyDeleteActually he looks thoughtful. The head tilted to the side, the eyes pensive, slightly pondering the situation, waiting gently and quietly for the picture to be taken. You may have a philosopher cat on your hands. I think your dog might like that and your cat will fit right into the family. Happy knitting and thankyou for your posts. Hope to hear more about them and you.
ReplyDeleteOh wow - this had me crying! It is so hard when we lose our fur babies. And then trying to explain to the fur kids left behind - where their friend has gone.. breaks your heart! That new kitty has the most precious little face! Cannot wait to see how it turns out when you finally get him home!

Dear Lene,
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry for the loss of your dear friend Mr. Cat. He had an exceptional life with you and your family, and it's good to have that knowledge in your heart, but it's a painful thing to loose these companions. We have had to say goodbye to our share and I understand how it takes some while to be able to speak of it. I wish you the best of luck with your new kitten and remind Ruusu to be patient with New Kitten. Also, it's an excellent thing that you are waiting the amount of time you are to get kitten - they really need that much time with their mothers to learn Very Important Cat Behavior Rules. Good luck to you all! ~chez
First I am sorry for your loss, I think this new little baby will light up everyone world.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Meredith
Ah, a Burmese!!! Lene, our sweet Burmese was put to sleep in June. He was 18 years and two months. This is what you are getting yourself into: Burmese are affectionate, loyal, funny, active and need a companion. This will be excellent for Ruusu!!! Enjoy your new furry friend!!! This will be good!
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry for your loss. I went thru this pain last July with my Gracie cat who was over 19 years, almost 20. It is so hard but I hope the new little addition will bring much joy and comfort.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet face your kissanpentu has! But I think Ruusu is going to have her hands full! A cat named Oscar joined my home about 3 months ago, and my dachsund, Max, has a new best friend. They play in the evenings, sleep next to one another, and Oscar will occasionally clean Max's face. Max loves it and doesn't move an inch until Oscar is done. I didn't expect this friendship, and I think that makes it all the more precious.
ReplyDeleteI can feel your pain. We had our beloved Max put to doggy heaven and he was 13years old. We loved him so much and he is sadly missed. Stay strong, lovely pics.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Anita.
Thank you so much for sharing these moments from your family life. I know all too well how pets twist their little paws around your heart and how way-too-short a time they get to spend with us. Wishing you continuing happy memories of Kille and friends and many lovely memories to come with the new baby of the house!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet story! And such lovely photos of two such good friends.

I'm so sorry about your cute widdle fur-ball. I'm worried for when I will have to be making this kind of post myself. I also refer to mine as Mr. for short.
