Too much water

Thank you for coming and reading! I have been thinking that you might have gone away since I have not been here, or have been here so very seldom. So happy to see that you keep visiting me.
Last night I stayed up very late - it was wee hours before I went to bed. I was little bit worried and just had to stay up to see what was happening down by the lake. The ice had cleared away from my shores earlier but in the evening the wind started to pick up and I saw how the ice began to move and slowly come closer. The rain was steady and kept drumming the roof and even though it felt very good to stay inside and listen to the sounds, I was getting more and more worried of my trees by the lake. The water is very high at the moment, higher than it has been for years and I was worried if the ice would start pushing against the trees and would do serious damage. So far it looks good, but I am still little bit concerned. Keep your fingers crossed so that my old companions by the lake can take up the pressure of the ice.
You were wondering about the heels in my last socks... it is the afterthought heel called "thumb-joint-hat-top-heel" from Lara Need's Sock Architecture book. I am not sure about the toe... I was going to try out different heels and toes from her brilliant book, but sort of got tired and most likely ended up doing a variation of her toe construction. I recommend her book, it is quite interesting.
While I stayed up late last night and waited for the wind to quiet down, I blocked this cowl. It is similar to the last one I made, I do love this crochet stitch and could keep making new cowls with the very same stitch but with different yarns. I would love to try some light and soft silk mohair...
I wonder if you remember when I made Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf from wool.
Some time ago I needle felted new creatures from another fairy-tale... these are Hansel and Gretel. I was going to make the bad witch too, but then my daughter pointed out that the same thing would happen to the witch that happened to the wolf... The wolf ended up looking too nice and most likely the witch would end up looking like ordinary Grand Mother... And that would not be good. So I am not sure if I will just move on to a new fairy tale...

This is all for now, wool with you,
Lene

I check your blog every single day, Lena, and am always happy to see what creative talents you have to share with us...and as always, you continue to inspire us with your many extraordinary skills with a needle of one kind or another. I love your cowl...such a beautiful blending of colors - and your fairy tale characters always make me smile!
I hope your trees survive. We have lost far too many over the years due to high hurricane winds...I'm crossing my fingers you'll have better luck!

  2. Holding the space of strength for your trees.
I do remember Little Red Riding Hood and Wolf! I think Wolf looks a little bad... Hansel and Gretel are adorable.

Fingers crossed that the ice does no damage. I say make the witch - they have a very bad reputation and I am sure they just need a little love!

  8. I love to see a new post come in from you.

It’s interesting how nature creates different fears and challenges depending on which part of the world you live in. I hope all is well.

Your wee felted creatures always make me think of The Moomins.

Lena, I've read your posts for years and am so happy you continue. I love reading about your life North of the Arctic Circle, it is so different than mine at the 45th parallel. You are creative and it inspires me to be creative, also. I am so glad you continue your blog.

  10. I love your blog, Lene, and will always check on it.

I like that Gretel looks rather apprehensive about the whole adventure but Hansel looks supremely confident that his pocket full of bread crumbs will keep them safe.

What cute little needle-felted creatures! I am impressed with how you keep up multiple crafts at once.
