Saturday sewing

There are times when my mailbox is bursting with all kinds of newsletters. I don't always have time even for a glance, but if the topic sounds interesting or if the very brief look at the letter has anything that catches my eye, I save it for later.  I love the internet, love the wealth of inspiration it provides and spend every single day few moments browsing - although not as much as I used to.

So I don't really remember how I landed at Sentimental Stitches, it might have been through A quilting life or then just following the various trails from there that took me to the site, and I subscribed to their newsletter. Late Friday night I happened to go through my mailbox and saw this enchanting old quilt.

I made a small mental remark and went to bed. Saturday morning I just had to go to have another look. This quilt top just brings so many memories back to me. It reminded me of The Tales of Peter Rabbit. So I plunged in, bought the pattern and printed out one rabbit. I could not leave it the way it was, I had to redraw some bits (make the body longer) to suit my taste, but did not want to lose the feel.

(While I was drawing out the body of the rabbit, it made me think that all the rabbits, actually all the hares we have around here, do look skinnier and taller and that image has shaped the creature in my mind's eye and that is why I simply had to redraw it.)

Then I took few pieces of fabric, the ones that were on top of the fabric stash, I did not feel like messing up the whole and spent the rest of the day making him.

I do hope that eventually he will have companions, but if not, it was so fun to be making it and spending some time remembering.

Other than making him, I did spend some quality time with a couple of friends. Saturday was a very lovely day!

Wool with you,
Lene

  6. I like the way you take a design & make it totally yours.
You have more snow in the pictures than we've had all winter. I'm not sad about that! LOL!

Lena, Just want to say hello and tell you how inspiring your blog is! I never miss reading it. I'm quite busy knitting and learning more everyday....you have wonderful ideas for fabric, too. You are an inspiration for my quilting, also. The bunny rabbit is precious. The best to you and the animals. Jeanie/Montana USA
