December - Day 8

The sun rose at 1041am and set at 1339pm. The length of the day was 2 hours and 58 minutes. No sun today, more snow, temperature below zero. Hard walking, as there was so much snow on the walkway, hopefully by tomorrow the walkway has been cleaned. On the other hand, it was really a good workout.

Today I set a small Tonttu-workshop on my desk.

I did not have much time for these today, but I have my gear all set up and I prepared few heads.

I will show you step by step if you'd like to follow.

Wooden beads (Ø15mm/0.6")
Glue (I used Aleene's all purpose Tacky Glue),
Wooden sticks (from grocery store - they should fit into the bead's hole)
Pliers to cut the wooden sticks

Cut the wooden sticks into approx 3cm (good 1") pieces - wrap little bit of glue around the stick and attach it to the wooden bead. Let the glue dry.

Very often one sees these yarn gnomes made of yarn only, and then one would skip this part but I like them to have heads.

Tomorrow the body and then the hats.

Wool with you,
Lene

I, too, look for your posts each day as they always make me smile. But, Lene, you have given me one more project to do! The tontun will add so much to my Christmas decorations here. :) Thank you!

  4. The yarn gnomes are absolutely adorable. I'm definitely making a couple for a long-time friend who has collected gnomes for nearly forty years. I've given him knitted and needlepoint gnomes, but these are really unique - at least around here.

  5. I ove your little gnomes. I have an Nisse from Denmark hanging on my cabinetry in my family room. Her apron is an advent calendar. Love them. What a cute cultural icon. Can't wait to see how you make the bodies. Did you knit their caps? Hope you show us that to.

I remember the year you opened your Advent calendar for us each day. Your daily posts are infinitely better....so imaginative, creative, showing us the fairy land you live and work in, during your few short hours of light. All of it is delightful and like children we are so happy to "open up" your blog each day. Simply a lovely gift each day for us all. Thank you, Lene.
