I take wool

Spinning always leads to twined knitting.

I take wool

and sit at the wheel and then I start wondering where I am aiming at; do I want z-ply or s-ply yarn. Then I say to myself there are so many lovely yarns in the market being s-plied that I really should do z-ply. It is the best kind for twined knitting.

I found this lovely wool in my treasure wool box. (Thank you Carol!)

"Belle Ciel" Lambspun of Colorado - blend of wool, silk and alpaca

I had tasted the wool earlier just a bit and had a little skein out of it but a good part was still waiting to be made into yarn. I have enjoyed spinning it, a little bit every day and most of it is done. There is very little left to be spun into singles and then I will start plying.

I had that little skein already done so I had to cast on for a mitten. And since it was z-ply yarn, I had to cast on for a twined mitten, otherwise I would have been wasting a good yarn.

Twined knitting often leads to embroidery.

But now I am jumping ahead. Tonight I will finish the last bit of the wool. Tomorrow I will ply. The day after tomorrow I will ply some more. And then I will knit the mittens. And then I will embroider them.

I can’t wait.

Love,

Lene

Beautiful! I know you've talked about it before, but please recap "twined knitting" for us! I think I might like to try it this winter.

  11. Ah the inspiration that comes from your blog... We have our annual knit out this weekend in Ottawa and this year some of us spinners will be demonstrating. I can't wait to sit and draft and peddle. It is nice to share this fun with you. I love your embroidery projects. I will look forward to them.
