Red therapy

Another dark day broke and I drove off to town - because of Christmas. I always dry to arrange the driving so that I would be able to do the trip in daylight but it is no longer possible, the day is just too short. Around four in the afternoon it feels like nine o’clock at night and all the afternoon I feel like putting the pj’s on and going to bed, by six I gaze at the time being sure that it's midnight. I feel like a blind mole underground most days.

I drive from the country where the world is wrapped into this black and silent blanket to town where it is merry and lively jingle bells with bright lights. The contrast is delightful but I feel relieved when the car pulls to the garage and its peace and harmony again – except for Tina who greets me with jolly barking.

I enjoy the colour red very much at this time of the year. The colours in the nature have died out long time ago and ever since the end of September the world has been quite dull, so red is very welcome. For these short few weeks the red spots in the house draw my eyes and I can’t get enough of the colour. I have read that red is supposed to bring up the blood pressure a bit, so serious red therapy is necessary that I will not fall into hibernation completely and therefore I have been embroidring red linen napkins. I'm sure this helps. All your supportive comments are treasured, thank you.

  2. Did you mind the very short days when you were younger, or before you lived in the USA for a bit?
I love the red of the napkins. I have white hair, so I wear a lot of red - must watch my blood pressure!

  5. I used to live in Alaska and we had short days too in the winter. Any touch of color is a blessing. But the long days of summer have their own set of problems-like never going to bed because it isn't dark yet! We also thought that when the dandelions bloomed before anything else in the early spring that they were the most beautiful thing ever invented. I still don't mind them in my yard because I don't think of them as "weeds" anymore. Your napkins are elegant and warm.

  6. The napkins look like some really lovely linen. Just like the finest yarn, the finest linens come from Europe. If I ever get there, I fully intend to leave my clothes behind and fill my bags with splendid linen, yarn, and books before I make the trip home. (But only on the last day.)

I loved what you wrote about your blog and the changes you intend to make. Its all part of your personal journey with string things and I will be delighted to see where you go next.

I enjoy your style of writing, your outlook, and the way in which you share your crafts and life in Lapland. I will look forward to the direction you will be taking in the coming year. I enjoy my "comfort" crafts but embrace the challenge of new ones. The elves are adorable! :)

I love red at this time of year also. It feels so rich and warm - hm, maybe that's just my bloodpressure rising? Did you sew the linen napkins yourself or are you embroidering store-bought ones? They look beautiful. I love the elves too - so festive and cheerful!
I'm looking forward to the new broader focus for your website. You are so creative, I can't wait to see what you are working on. Your blog is always very inspiring, and is a fascinating glimpse into another country. Make your blog something you love, and we will love it too!

  12. Lene, I was without power and internet all last week and I can't even begin to express how much I missed 'visiting' you every day. It's been such a delightful treat to 'catch up' on all these posts and seeing everything you've been doing... but most of all, I'd like to tell you, I don't come here to visit just for your knitting, I come visiting for you, your thoughts you put into words, all the things you do, getting to see the landscape, and of course Tiina and Mr.Kille, EVERYTHING.
If it turns out that you post once a week? so be it, I will always (barring no power) be beyond happy to visit :^) Your blog was one of the very first I discovered and I will always remain 'faithfully yours'.
