Back on the track

After a very long night the morning gradually became lighter but I did not feel any better. The kids left to school and I slept until the afternoon, but when I woke up at two I felt almost as good as new. I could not believe it, the state I was a few hours earlier! Thank you for your good wishes.

I took it easy for few hours and finished crocheting the edging to the Icelandic shawl. I will not declare this done before I have blocked it. Blocking will be tricky because of the frill edging. I think I will block the main part and then steam the edging. But more of it when I get to it. When I was crocheting it I was watching the scenery turn to blue once again and it looked exactly like the soft blue blob I had on my lap.
I live in the forest with lots of evergreens around. And I have seen how the trees have lost their colour as the winter has crept closer and closer. The trees are different green in the winter but they do have colour even though it at first sight in this dim light looks dreadful grey. After looking for this green in the forest I ended up searching for green from my stash as well.

This soft and lovely green I have on the needles now is nothing like the forest at the moment and it is too cold for the Moth also, but yes, I have Anne’s lovely Moth Shawl on the needles. I have some darker and colder green in Merino/Silk but I think this shawl needs to be knit with yarn with some mohair in it.
Anne is one of the gifts in this knitting community. I have been reading her blog almost from the very beginning and fell in love with her lace right away. Reading her blog is very inspiring. If you are reading this Anne, thank you!

Now that I have been knitting lace for a few days and have had this soft and light yarn flow through the fingers without me actually feeling that I’m knitting, I have realized that I need to be able to tug and pull and have control and tight grip. I must admit that I miss simple stockinette when the hands just keep going and I don’t need to concentrate nor look at the knitting. I know I have to start a new sweater, I have the design in my head and I have beautiful winter green in the stash in a yarn I love very much. I will call the sweater Winter Forest. If not tonight, I will cast on tomorrow. Sweaters just seem to be my calling.

  1. Glad you are feeling better - sleeping did it, I guess!

  2. Glad you are feeling better. We seem to have a parallel yarn stash lately: same yarns, different shades. I also have 2 very blue skeins of Kid Seta. They haven't yet told me what they would like to become.

  3. Yes, Anne is a gift indeed. All her designs are beyond wonderful. I recently purchased Irtfa'a and looking forward to sometime after the first of the year to begin that journey.
That green Kid Seta is luscious.
You're not just the 'sweater lady', you're the 'everything lovely lady' :^)
I'm so glad you're feeling better!

A bit of extra rest does wonders! Glad you're feeling better. I love your analogy to the trees and your yarn. It makes the knitting so much more meaningful and memorable. :)

  5. Well done, simple stockinette is as much a feast for the eye and to the hand as lace. I always love your beautiful sweaters. Your talent for them is amazing.

  6. I'm glad to hear you're feeling better! I just wanted to introduce myself: I've been lurking for a while and I just wanted to tell you that I thoroughly enjoy your blog. I love hearing about the countryside where you live, and seeing all your gorgeous knitting. Thank you!

  7. I've promised myself to knit one of Anne's shawls next year. Your Icelandic one is lovely, and oh! those greens!

My psychology teacher about ten years ago said that if you center a flashlight on your forehead [touching your forehead] and turn it on, some of the light will penetrate into your brain. It helped her with her SAD. I have a very mild case of it myself, and I love my "Reveal" lightbulbs. One of these days I will be able to afford full-spectrum light bulbs.

    Naps are wonderful!

I hope the illness was just a short one and you continue to feel well.

I very much like your idea of the advent calendar posts. I've made a note on my calendar to use this next year. We can all use a little help to stay on track this time of year.

I haven't yet knit any of Anne's lace. I don't think I will soon as all I seem to want to do lately are the simple but wearable sweaters.

  10. I'm in a tug of war between sweaters and lace myself. Sweaters seem to be getting more of my time, but I'm getting lace in other ways than just knitting laceweight.
