I tried her on today again, and I’m so far quite happy with the result. The hem turned out fine and the ribbing that I chose pulls inwards just a little bit, but prevents the hem from flaring which was my intention. There are purl stitches in the yoke and I wanted to have them in the hem as well.
The sleeves have kept me on the edge all the time. So after knitting for a while I had to check and it is looking good. It is a bit wider than in the original piece, but still I think it is slender enough.
Bad picture but this was all I could do… I am thinking of adding something to the sleeves but I’m not sure yet what it will be or if there is going to be anything extra, anyway it has to be quite small detail. The sleeves have kept me on the edge all the time. So after knitting for a while I had to check and it is looking good. It is a bit wider than in the original piece, but still I think it is slender enough.
I ended up knitting with these colours because I had plenty of this main colour in my stash and the other colours were chosen with intuition. The main colour is Finnwool from Studio Maisa Tikkanen and it is becoming a favourite of mine. It is not over-processed and has a piece of hay here and there as a reminder from where this originates. The colours are beautiful. The yarn is light, the yardage is good. This would be good for mittens and shawls as well. Definitely a favourite.
It is almost nine at night. And it is dark but not bad. I like the way how the darkness wraps the house like a huge blanket and collects everyone in...
Oooh, I like it. The hem looks great.
ReplyDeleteI really do admire your staying power, Lene! You just keep at it until you get there whereas I tend to wander off in several different directions at once.
ReplyDeleteIt looks very good indeed - and I think the length will be very practical for the winter ahead. No point in crop cardigans skimming the waistline when it's freezing, is there? And the colours are lovely.
Wow - I wasn't too interested in the pattern as shown in the magazine, but yours is lovely! I love the colors you chose, and the silhouette will be beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt's just lovely. And it co-ordinates with your dress form too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lot of stockinette! Do you like to have a movie on while you knit? I find it helps keep my brain entertained, if there's not a lot of variety in the knitting. I also like listening to a classical radio station. I think your idea for the hem is brilliant. When winter arrives in Finland, you will be warm and cozy.
ReplyDeleteEnid is quite beautiful, Lene, and you have excellent intuition for the colours.
ReplyDeleteLene, The ribbing in the skirt of Enid is eye-catching, to say the least! Stunning! What do you think of duplicating a little of that ribbing at, or near the bottom of the sleeves? Just a suggestion, mind you, I am a total NOVICE!!! I think everything you design is very beautiful and meaningful in some way. Take care. Jeanie
ReplyDeletethe dress is beautiful! I like very much the way it has turned out. Congratulations, Lene!
ReplyDeleteEnidistä tulee sinun versionasi todella hieno. Minä myös olen Maisa Tikkasen langan suuri ihailija, harvemmin kyllä raaskin käyttää niitä vyyhtejä... Rakastan kuituvärjättyjen lankojen elävää pintaa. Valitsemasi sinertävä sävy on kaunis.
ReplyDeleteHappy finishing! The wool sounds wonderful.
ReplyDeleteOh it looks lovely, I really like the way you have changed this pattern and the colours you are using are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful - I love the way it looks as a dress!
ReplyDeleteYour projects always seem to be epic in scale! I love how you adapt sweaters into dresses. But I sometimes wonder what goes on your lower half when you wear them, since the winters are so long where you live. (Handknitted knee socks?...)
ReplyDeleteLene, if there is a list somewhere of the most stunning re-interpretations of a pattern, this has got to be tops. Its turning out beautifully.
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time I've seen your Enid and I had to tell you how much I like it. The colors, the length, everything about it is great. Can't wait to see it all done.
ReplyDeletei like it too lene. we are having darkness here at a surprising hour as well (around 8 pm). it's strange that it gets dark so early. the summer was too short
ReplyDeleteSoooo beautiful...
ReplyDeleteVoi kun on tulossa kaunis mekko! Tosi hyvin sopii tuo joustinneule tuonne alas. Mitä jos hihoissakin olisi samanlaista pätkä? Ei ihan yhtä pitkälti, mutta joku 10 cm voisi olla. Vai ajattelitko kirjoa ehkä jotain? Kaunis joka tapauksessa tulee!
ReplyDeletehello, I love the way you knit this sweater! it became a dress and a very nice dress. Do you want to join the "rond de sorcières" of Niqui? she's french and collect all the knitting blogs she can .You can see it there:

Beautiful work! What stamina you have. It truly is spectacular and I will look forward to seeing a picture of you wearing it upon its completion.
ReplyDeleteLena, that is absolutely beautiful! Dressy, yet practical too. I need to think of a pattern I could elongate now that I see your idea. We have cold weather too here in Alaska, but probably not as cold as where you are. I see frost on your blueberry leaves picture, and we haven't had frost yet although the leaves are yellow.
