Autumn Awakenings

I went to a chamber symphony concert last Thursday and its name was Autumn Awakenings. Beautiful concert with lots of food to the soul. Beautiful name as well, so I thought it would be a good name for this blog post too.

These pictures are from yesterday morning before seven in the morning.

I don't think I need to add any words to the pictures.

But this being a knitting blog I always feel that there needs to be knitting... I'm including a picture of Enid. I need to make few decisions now. As you can see I have added a bit of shaping to the pattern. I'm not sure if I want to make this into a cardigan or a little dress (more a very long sweater than a dress actually). My girls favor a little dress. Last spring I made the blue cotton dress of Catania and I have used it a lot. It is one of my favourites and I'm slowly going to that direction again. What I have in mind right now is to continue stockinette for quite a while and then knit a wide band of ribbing but not too tight, I don't want this to pull much but to add some detail. But small enough detail so that it won't be fighting for attention with the yoke. The yoke has to be the focus for the eye.

...I think it will be a little dress...

It is Saturday night, today's chores are done, it will be knitting from now on. I need to decide soon. Or if not, I'll have to knit the sleeves first.

  1. I want to move to where you are! I don't think Summer is going to leave here.

Enid looks lovely and will make a pretty dress.

  2. I like the dress idea as well. It is going to be quite beautiful. I can't believe you are having frost there already! Wow. It is making me crave cold Autumn mornings. It will be a while before we have that here though. This is our warmer part of the year... Enjoy the fresh nip in the air!

  4. I think if you have used the lovely blue dress so much, that's your answer. Sometimes it's hard to decide between what would be most practical and what we would like to try out!

Is that really early morning frost? It can't be!

  5. If you use the other dress a lot, I would vote for a dress! Would it be something you would wear with tights?
You are right those pictures are worth a thousand words. Such a beautiful country you live in, Lene.
    Happy knitting!

  8. What beauty you find just outside your door! I'm jealous of your frost, it's still hot here...
I like the dress idea, and I still love the colors you've chosen.

The sun is just going down here in a clear blue sky. It is 5.45 p.m. in N.Z. Spring is here with an Autumnal chill still in the air. I love your beautiful photos and words. Enid is lovely and has inspired me.

I love the colors that you chose for Enid- how did you go about re-arrainging the color scheme? I ask because I have been eyeing the cardigan myself, but the colors that the pattern calls for are too dark for me to wear.

I can't believe that you have frost already. Its still 90F here in North Carolina, US-- being so far south we won't get a real frost until about early November...

  13. Beautiful pictures and yes Enid should be a dress...worn with thick knitted tights and ankle boots or would look great over jeans.

Your pictures are so inspiring. Knitters and artists see the beauty in the details, your photos do the same thing. Enid will be a great dress.

I vote for a dress with maybe a hint of the yoke colors towards the hem? The pictures are beautiful.

Your pictures of frosty leaves and your misty lake are beautiful. We are still having summer weather here in southern Ontario, and we will probably have what some people call "Indian summer" before the really cool weather comes. Do the reindeer stay around your area all winter? What do they eat? Here, the deer nibble bark and any grasses that protrude through the snow. They sometimes kill trees by eating off bark.

  17. inspiring words and images as always. I'm adapting an Enid-style sweater myself at the moment and feel I've overdone things colour-wise at the hem & cuffs - I think you are right that nothing should compete with the yoke. It is going to look absolutely lovely.

  19. I don't know which of the pictures is more lovely, the first or the last. Both share a profound loveliness. The Enid is surely all the feelings of the first picture put into yarn.

  22. Go for the dress! And why not try a seed stitch border instead of ribbing. No roll and it won't pull in. I also think it's a nice quiet elegant finish on a piece.

How long does the sun shine these days? The lake looks so serene.

I wonder if you've finished Enid. She's looking warm and cozy.

What a great idea to clip pictures of favorite colors!

    Autumn? Frost!

September in scenic Maryland is the best month of our "summer" The temperatures have moderated during the day. At night, the temperature is often less than 70F (21C). There is more rain and the flowers respond to the moisture with a fresh crop of blooms.

    Enid is LOVELY!

  25. Enid looks beautiful. I'm sure eh will be perfect whatever you decide to do with her.

I think autumn is the most beautiful of all the seasons here in Finland. The colors are more subdued and earthy than in summer, and I really get a feeling of inner peace. And let's not forget about the knitting! Autumn is the best knitting season! :)
