I'm forever thankful for our veterans for letting me raise up my children in this beautiful northern country. My daughter wanted to dress up in Finland's colors (blue and white) to go to the Independence Day reception arranged by the city of Rovaniemi for the nineth graders.
The dress is blue but she wears a white rose in her hair. Here she is in her new Casino Shawl...

in the catwalk.
(In case somebody asks, I made those cats some years ago. They are of cloth with some embroidery added.)
Happy Independence Day, Lene!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful daughter and the shawl is wonderful. Happy Independence Day.
ReplyDeleteHappy Independence Day. I had to take a look on google to find out when and from whom you got your independence. I love reading blogs from all over the world. I learn so much, from knitting to geography and history.

ReplyDeleteYour daughter is quite the lovely young woman, the shawl looks perfect on her.
Loving those cats!
You have such a lovely home from the little peeks we get here and there...
Beautiful - the cats, the girl, the sentiment, the carpentry, the lace, the shoes, the piney panelling, everything! Thanks for an inspiring post.
ReplyDeleteLene, do you know the term "gilding the lily?" It particularly applies to your beautiful, graceful, lily-like daughter wearing your elegant lace shawl.
ReplyDeleteNice job on both!
And Happy Independence Day!
Happy Independence Day! You daughter is beautiful, the shawl is lovely, and your blog is the best!
ReplyDeleteLene, this shawl is stunning and tell your daughter she is beautiful in her party outfit!
ReplyDeleteI love your cats!...
I hope all of your family enjoy the Independence Day celebrations. Your daughter looks very lovely, I am sure she will turn many heads. The dress and the shawl go together so well. How did you manage to match them so well? The cat walk is very amusing, haha. Lene, I cannot fully express what a pleasure it is to see so much creativity expressed in so many ways. Please thank your daughter for allowing us to enjoy her beauty and grace.
ReplyDeleteThat's such a beautiful shawl.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes I was going to ask about the cats!
Beautiful! Happy Independence Day!
ReplyDeleteHappy Independence Day, Lene!
ReplyDeleteDid your heart do a little quiver when you saw your child and she was a young lady? She is beautiful and the dress and shawl are absolutely wonderful. How has the practising wearing high heels gone? It is not as easy as it looks!
Love the cats too! Are there any crafts that you cannot do, Lene? Does your host Mom from the USA who encouraged you in embroidery read your blog? She must be amazed!
Happy Independence Day, Lene!

The shawl is marvelous. Your daughter looks so elegant.
ReplyDeleteShe is beautiful, and she wears her shawl as nicely as any professional model would. Congratulations, Lene!
ReplyDeleteHappy Independence Day to you! I really enjoy your blog. The idea of living somewhere where the days are short and the homes are cozy and you have plenty of time to knit sounds so wonderful.
ReplyDeleteYour shawl and your daughter are lovely.
Happy Independence Day!
ReplyDeleteWe are watching "Fire and Ice" a documentary about Finland's winter war on our Public Television station. Although the reception is poor as we are in the midst of a tremendous snowstorm. Safe travels to the dance!
Do Finnish teenage girls wear boots to the party and change into their heels? Michigan girls are not always so sensible.
both are super lovely!!! they both must make you proud!
ReplyDeleteHow lovely -- your daughter with your love in the form of a shawl around her shoulders -- how proud you must be.
ReplyDeleteLaura
Beautiful daughter, beautiful shawl!!
ReplyDeleteYour daughter is a very grown up young lady. She looks beautiful and wears your wonderful knitting with grace and style.
ReplyDeleteAs an American I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around the idea of an Independence Day in the snow. (Darned self-involved Americans.) Do Finns set off fireworks as part of their celebration?
ReplyDeleteYour daughter and the shawl are lovely!
Such a wonderful day to celebrate living in freedom. Happy Independence Day!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful daughter for you to be proud of. She looks so confident in her first high heels, lovely dress, and the gorgeous shawl from her Mum.
Your home in the photos looks so warm and beautiful. I love wood.
Yes I noticed the dress as well as daughter and shawl - what a combination!
ReplyDeleteNow I have something else to add to the list of important Dec 6 events (my birthday, Saint Nicholas' feast day, inauguration of the new Congolese president...etc!)
Daughter, dress and shawl are breathtakingly lovely.
ReplyDeleteTodella upea asu!!
ReplyDeleteMistä tuon huivin ohje onkaan??
What a graceful young lady...with a sooooo beautiful and delicate lace shawl ! Makes me think of pictures from a "long ago" time ...it's really lovely ! You're an artist...in your hands and hearth...
ReplyDeleteEsther
True elegance -- both daughter and shawl. They do each other proud!
ReplyDeleteHuivi on upea! Neuleet pääsevät todella oikeuksiinsa vasta, kun niitä pidetään.
ReplyDeleteOlen blogisi vanha lukija, mutta uusi kommentoija. On aina niin mukavaa päästä lukemaan huolella kirjoitettua tekstiä, ja katsoa kuvia kauniista neuleistasi. :)
Happy Independence Day!!! Your daugther looks lovely with her new shawl - also lovely.
ReplyDeleteHi Lene,
ReplyDeleteYour Daughter is verybeautiful in her new dress and the shawl really fits the dress well. I hope she had a nice time at the reception!
How very pleased your daughter must be by her reflection. She is so elegant and lovely. The shawl is perfect.
ReplyDeleteFinally I got to see the pictures, they weren't there the first time I looked. Your daughter is beautiful, and the shawl looks so good on her. And the cats are fun!
ReplyDeleteI hope it was a great day all around. :-) Are there fireworks on your Independence Day, like we have? Or do you have a more "indoor" set of traditions, since it's so cold at this time of year?
ReplyDeleteThe shawl turned out beautifully--of course. :-) Your daughter looks so elegant in it!
Wow! Beautiful daughter, shawl, dress, & shoes. What a fun way to celebrate Independence Day. I just began a shawl from the Three-cornered and long shawl book that I first heard about on your site. I'm hoping it will be ready to wear by Easter (I wanted Christmas but I don't think that will happen!).
ReplyDeleteHappy Independence Day! She is so lovely -- and the shawl looks very much at home and happy with its mistress. She looks beautiful and her new shawl is an extra special touch. She will have a marvelous time I am sure.
ReplyDeleteI remember my first high heels, how exciting!
Amazing cats -- you are an artist.
The shawl is beautiful, but, Oh Lene, your daughter is even lovelier! The cats are terrific - true needle art. Happy independence day!
ReplyDeleteLovely, graceful daughter, and beautiful shawl! And those cats are amazing.
ReplyDeleteHappy Independence Day!! Your daughter is gorgeous--and wearing a gorgeous shawl. She looks very elegant--much more elegant than my daughters ever were in 9th grade.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing two beautiful creations... does your heart explode with pride watching them walk out the door?!
