There are some spots in the surrounding woods that are turning red. Little by little there are more signs of changing seasons. Entering forest in the fall is like stepping into a fairy tale. And I feel like I'm becoming more like a listener than a talker. There is very little to be told of today; it was Sunday, the weather was beautiful, I took a walk outside. There was peace and quiet all around. The world with its worries far far away. I stayed in this meditating and peaceful mood and finished these stockings.
The answer to the question of how long I have been knitting... It is more than two years now. This is what I say when I don't care to think of how old I am and how many decades I have already been doing something. So really it is decades and more like two... Come to think of it ... it must be something like four.
What wonderful photos. Feels like the beginning of autumn here as well, but no beautiful red/amber leaf colours yet...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful stockings, they go very well with the autumn colours. We have only dried brown (rowan, birch, oak) and yellow leaves (birch) here in the south, no hints of red.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos and knitting. Here in Utah autumn will not start for another month. You will have us all moving to Finland.
ReplyDeleteWonderful pictures of the woods and the stockings! The red color fits right in
ReplyDeleteBeautiful socks!!
ReplyDeleteI so love reading your page. I live in Colorado and can not wait for fall to get here. The stockings are beautiful. I've been knitting since I was five, oh my for over 4 decades. But you know, we are just getting better looking as we get older:)
ReplyDeleteHow much yarn does it take to knit such tall stockings, I wonder? Three skeins? Four?
ReplyDeleteLovely work. They're perfect for the coming season. :-)
I love the socks - I've only done 1 pair and am at the heel on my second pair -- this morning is the first morning I put long pants on because it is a little cooler and breezy. I can't wait for fall -- it is my favorite time of year.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos, lovely reading, I can almost feel myself entering the forest....thank you. The stockings are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThe age-old age thing...and really we are here for such a short time no matter how many years we are here, it's a blessing from the universe we have found things to do that we love to do....you know?
What gorgeous stockings. Perfect for the fall, they match the foliage beautifully.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful stockings and lovely poses! How long did it take you to complete them? And I'm wondering what the red leafed plant is. I don't think I've seen it here. I've been a knitter for over four decades, and I'm still just as excited about yarn and needles as when I was a kid.
ReplyDeleteFall - it is so beautiful in your forest! The socks add to the beauty. If I think of decades I have been knitting, it is almost 6 decades! So nice to have a peaceful place to retreat to when the world seems to be pressing in with all the terrible news on radio and TV.
ReplyDeleteI didn't read that last paragraph very clearly, so when I read that you'd been knitting for two years, I nearly fell off my chair with shock! You have the talent and the experience of someone who's been knitting for lifetimes!
ReplyDeleteI love those stockings. I feel peaceful and relaxed just having read your entry, even though I am sitting in my office at work.
Really lovely photos, and I love, love, love the stockings! How do you usually wear them? Under pants/jeans? With skirts?
ReplyDeleteSeeing those red blueberry leaves gives me goosebumps... I can just feel the smell of a fall forest in my nose! I would give a lot to be able to go for a little hike in the woods right now. It's one of the things I miss most about Finland, and makes me quite home sick... sniff...
ReplyDeleteI sometimes say I learned to knit when I was six. No numbers of years doing it, but a different view. I also say that I am "ageless" which works well unless my children are with me.
ReplyDeleteI say I learned to knit when I was six, too. Maybe I will be more conscious of the time as I grow older, but for the moment, it has not occurred to me to be anything but proud of the time that I have dedicated to this pastime.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful leaves, and beautiful socks! That just makes me wish for fall, and knee socks!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos again!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Beth asked about how much yarn it takes to complete the knee high stockings. I'm wondering too. The only pair I have made in the past is a poor fit.
I love the photos. I don't know what type of plant of flower that is (the red one), but I love it. And the stockings look very 'fall.'
ReplyDeleteHi, I just want to write that I really love your blog. Both the pictures and your drawings. And the knitting of course: Spectacular long socks again!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous stockings, and really beautiful forest photos.
ReplyDeleteI love the stockings. Is this your own pattern or can you buy it somewhere?
ReplyDeleteThere are small signs of autumn around western New York also. I'm enjoying watching your seasons change in Finland; living above the Arctic Circle seems so different to me. Your stockings are just lovely and are really starting to inspire me to knit my socks much longer!
ReplyDeletethe color of the stockings looks pefect against the background of the woods!
ReplyDeletebreathtaking photos

ReplyDeleteI sure do love the autumn and winter seasons best!
We are still in the dog days of summer here and everything is struggling to stay green some days in the heat.
Very nice socks! They look very happy in the fall colors.
Absolutely FANTASTIC! I love love love the socks! Thank you for sharing them.
ReplyDeleteLene, your post are so pleasant to read each time, kind of poetry of the day and I like it so much... plus wonderful knitting ! Your blog is a good thing for the heart...Stay alive and long !
ReplyDeleteEsther
Hey Lene, I've been knitting for nearly six decades (my mother put the needles in my hands when I was barely toddling) and am learning something new every day. We just need to pass it on to the next generation...

Those are such beautiful knee highs! Ones that make you feel like prancing.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful knee highs! You mentioned in another post that you are short. Looking at the scale of your legs and the environment, I'm thinking "short" must mean something different in Finland than in the U.S. I guess height is relative. ;)
