Moments

I don't always agree with my mother. Some advice is very hard to take. Don't get me wrong, she does not get involved in my daily chores and does not give me her expertise on any given opportunity.

But she has taught me to seize the moment. If one has a small urge to do something that would bring joy, no matter what it is, you should always try to act on the urge somehow. Because in a little while something comes in between and the moment is gone and you have missed your joy. In this age the everyday joy is mostly in little things. Like when buying food, just think for a while, what you would really like, not only what you should have in a healthy diet, and try to include a little bit a that into your menu. Some days I need to remind me of the things I enjoy. Some days are so full of all kinds of tasks that the day goes by without me knowing how I really felt during the day. Do you get the picture? Seize the moments of joy when you can.

Yesterday I was running errands in town. When I was done I noticed that I still had a few minutes on my parking ticket and I was not going to waste all that money so I paid a little visit to my LYS. I had not been there for a while and the lady who runs it is very nice and we always have nice talks. It is a place that I love to go and I go quite often. When you have the small desire, act on it. I was following my mother's advice and it did not fail - it never fails - and I came out with a bag of yarn and a big silly happy grin on my face. Just in time in the last minute of my parking ticket. I did not walk by my joy, I have it here. I'm standing on top of it all.
I have so much yarn that I could pile it up and have my own mountain. (I know I'm not one of the rare species.)

So this is what is happening now. I'm here at the top of my yarn mountain and I have the most beautiful scenery. I can see cables - I can see lace - there are crisp rows of knit and purls stitches as far as my eyes reach and a whole valley of lovely fair-isle.

So I have been trekking around and this is where I have been the last couple of days.

Socks from the book Knitting Marvelous Mittens - Ethnic Designs from Russia by Charlene Schurch...cables as in Eris Cardigan from www.girlfromauntie.com...and knit and purls stitches in white cotton in a swatch without any definite in sight.I'm not sure if this is all I have seen during the past days. You can add to the list at least the Embossed leaves socks by Mona Schmidt from Interweave Knits Winter 05 Issue.

The knits in the photos might not live another day but at least I have followed my heart and managed to seize few joyous moments...

PS. Miina wants to say hi and thank you's for the nice comments she received from the dogs who suffer from the hot weather as well. She now can report that the weather is back to normal, it was only 4 degrees above the zero this morning - a very pleasant temperature for the privates.

  11. What a coincidence! Yesterday, my boss said to take off early (we've all been working really hard on a project). It was a beautiful, sunny spring day and I should have trotted right home to do some yard work. What did I do? I went to a yarn shop that is much closer to work than home and treated myself to a couple of books, some circs (to try magic loop on socks) and a really cool Lantern Moon basket.

  12. Now I'm glad I bought one more skein of sock yarn yesterday, even though I said I wasn't going to do it. It's in colors I really like, and I know I'll enjoy knitting with it. Thanks for the 'permission'. :-)

  14. Kivoja mietteitä! Just noin mekin äidin kanssa ajatellaan eli mitään hauskaa ei kannata jätää tekemättä sen takia, että nyt just pitäis tiskata, siivota, pyykätä jne. Ei ne hommat minnekään karkaa.

Wow, what a big day full of joy and inspiration! I am knitting Eris (pullover version) in a deep green merino, and the Embossed Leaves socks in lavendar Wildfoote. I've done one sock and am two repeats into the second, and love them. I'm about two-thirds of the way around the cabled neckline of Eris, and am enjoying the challenge--I haven't done cables in a long time. I hope you enjoy these as much as I have!

Your moments of inspiration certainly was a moment of inpiration for me as well. Now I finally know what to do with the Lopi yarn I brought home from Reykjavik last year. Thank you!
