Candy colors

I have been so happy with the gloves that settling down to a new knit has been ... somewhat difficult. I'm glad of all the nice comments - thank you!

So instead of knitting I have spend this weekend mostly outside cleaning the garden and listening to birds sing ... they are making an overwhelming noise so to speak. It hasn't been warm enough to cook outside neither knit so more or less the first mosquito bites on my forehead are the only thing I can report to you. I don't know if the mosquitoes are more poisonous in the early summer or if the skin is more sensitive but my forehead looks like I'm growing horns ...

But I have to show you this... This is a beginning of a new relationship... with cotton sock yarn from Greenwood Fiberworks that Grumperina raved of some time ago.

  1. I was thinking about cotton socks for the summer, I even got the Mata hari pattern from Steph, I worry about loving another kind of yarn- its getting tough to resist-
maybe I should do what my friend suggests and just give in to the temptations...

  2. Your cotton socks look wonderful! Over the years, I have made cotton socks from the cotton Regia (which has 35% wool) and Fixation (which makes thick socks). I have't tried anything else. I find that if it is too warm for the Regia socks, I go barefoot! But, I'd like to try the sock yarn you are using. I'll watch your blog for your reaction to it.
I am sorry to report that it is so hot here in Wisconsin (and humid) that a marathon run has been called off due to severe heat stroke in some runners. It is too hot to knit outside. I am sitting in our basement where it is cool, making squares for my leftover sock yarn blanket and listening to a Margaret Atwood novel. I don't own a summer cabin on a lake, so my basement is the best I can do to cool off!!!

  3. I don't think the mosquitoes are more "poisonous" in the spring, but I imagine we probably lose some of our immunity over the winter.

I'm "enjoying" nearly a dozen on my legs right now. :P

  4. Try a dab of citronella oil in your hair? My Mum-In-Law lives in The West-Indies and they swear by it for keeping mossies away .If you sit on a porch citronella candles maybe ? Love the colours of your sock.

  5. Cotton socks - I will look for some cotton yarn at Sealed With A Kiss, when I am there in the next week or two! Feels so good to be outside working, even if the mosquitoes are looking for fresh skin to bite!

  6. I see spring in your colors. So pretty! The mosquitoes are bad here too. The repellant spray seems so toxic but does seem to work.

That is very pretty yarn! I haven't tried cotton sock yarn yet. Today we have our air conditioning on, as the temp went up to 41C today. The children stayed inside for lunch recess, in the air conditioned school. Almost all the traffic lights on my 20 minute drive home were out. Hopefully tomorrow will be cooler.

The colors on your socks look beautiful- I have only knit cotton socks with Cascade Fixation before, and they were nice and sproingy.

BTW- your gloves are just stunning.

  10. I just love the colors in that yarn (and am trying to resist ordering some of my own).

Even though it's quite hot here, there aren't many mosquitos out yet and the black flies haven't been too bad either. The evenings have been wonderful to sit on the patio, look only at a finished outside project and knit.
