Beautiful blue skies!

Most of my country men - if not all of them up here - have to deal with grey skies while in my world the sun came out suddenly and the weather forecast for my week end will have blue skies only!

I think you can guess what brightened this day.

There are two reasons.

Yarn Harlot's new book made her long journey up here and landed in the mail box by the main road. And in the very same mail box was hiding a note form the local store that there is a package there waiting for me. I jumped into my old war horse to get it from the little store (the only store in the village) that sells groceries, gas and coffee plus does postal services.

The package had some yarn in it.

Not any yarn, but some Koigu, some Lornas Laces Shepherd Sock, some Gems Opal and some Gems Pearl and some Mountain Colors Bearfoot. All perfect for socks. I'm so excited that I can hardly concentrate on writing and my hands find it hard to stay on the key board. So you have to excuse me for writing such a short post today...

I will knit more stockings (knee high socks) and socks because... I got my Sock Mojo working (my husband loves blues and at this very moment - Friday afternoon - I can hear Muddy Waters singing I got my mojo working...) but the stockings will not be in the words or charts in the very near future. Pattern writing is something I have to learn to do. And stockings because... they are warm in these latitudes (abt 67 degrees N)... like when it is raining and you need wellingtons... like when you go fishing and you need wellingtons... like when you are gardening early in spring and you need wellingtons... like when you go trekking in late chilly fall weather... like when you go ice skating in winter... like when you go dancing with wool...all very good causes for long socks. And there are many many more reasons out there (like beautiful yarn!!). And because there is this someone in this house who likes short skirts and wool socks.
But I really need to go now to enjoy my new yarn. And then I'll make a huge cup of coffee, take two chocolate cookies and settle down in a nice and quiet place and spend some quality time with the Book. I hope you all have a sunny week end.

PS. Forget the coffee and the cookies, I'll have red wine. Forget the wine. I'll drink some cognac.

My Dad, from Rhode Island, calls them "stockings"; and my Mom, from Massachusetts, calls them socks. She calls the long nylon things stockings, even if they are panty-hose. No-one in my family calls them hose, whatever the configuration. But other people do. For you, Dear Lene, are socks the ankle-length things, and stockings more of a knee-length?

We still have rain in Wisconsin. It is strange to think you are so much further north than us. We are at 42 degrees N, in the "norther tier" of states which border of Canada, and so we think we are very northerly. But you have us beat by a long shot. Have a nice weekend with your yarn and your stockings. Post the pictures of how you are doing, OK?

  3. You always make me smile, it warms my heart to see others be so excited over wool :D Muddy Waters, that's a name I haven't heard in a long time. I was fortunate enough to see him perform at a festival in Milwaukee, WI., back in the late 70s.

Lene - so glad the skies turned blue. Yarn and a knitting book in the mail - does it get any better? Do you have a favourite yarn? Enjoy your tea/coffee/wine/cognac - it is 10:00 am here, so it is a bit early for wine or cognac, but it is probably much later in Finland! Have a great weekend!

I just found your blog, and I love it.

I have six (count them with me!) knitting books due to arrive from Amazon any day now. Two of them are Stephanie's. I can't wait. And last week, two packages of yarn. And since Spring has sprung around here, that means I have to share my knitting time with gardening and lawn mowing. Makes me want to move north so I can comfortable knit until summer.

Oh, lucky you. I'm still waiting, not too patiently, for my copy of Stephanie's book. I ordered Vintage Socks too, and both books are coming together, but not till the end of April. In the meantime, I have lots of that lovely sock yarn I got in Toronto to knit with. Painting is also keeping me busy. I just finished a commission. Enjoy your books and yarn. We'll be waiting for stocking pictures!

    Hello Lene,
Enjoy your blue-sky weekend! We have thunderstorms predicted here.

I love to wear stockings/knee-high socks, but I have seen only a few patterns for them. I will look forward to seeing yours.

  16. You have blue skies?! Here in California we have had more rain than I can bear. My husband will be in Finland in a couple of weeks on business. Maybe he can take the rain with him and bring back the sun! (sorry- maybe we could just borrow it for a few days?) Enjoy your choclate, yarn and cognac! ; )

You warm my heart. It is still snowing where I live as well... I long for Spring too.
I loved your post, I could really feel the happiness in your heart over the new yarn. I am lucky to have 3 yarn shops in my small town.
(That also means lots of gals that love to knit to hang out with.) You have inspired me to start a pair of socks.
