The Yellow stockings are here. The yarn used was Lanett (more than 150 grams but a lot less than 200 grams) with 2 mm needles. The pattern I put together myself (design would be too strong a word here). Before you look at the pictures, keep in mind that these stockings are too big for these skinny legs, these are for my short and somewhat heavier ones. But this pattern is very easy to modify so I think I'll make another pair because...
the sock model really liked these ones... Do you still remember what happened with these green ones? Yes she did not care for this pair, but now here pictures of the back side.
The red socks are from the same book as the green stockings. These are the Log Cabin Socks (from Handknit holidays), yarn used was Cascade Pastaza and the amount needed 2 skeins with size 4 mm needles. Pattern was enjoyable. I have one skein left over, I had three in the beginning and I just might need one more skein so that I can make another pair.
I guess I said couple of days ago that I would not knit yellow for a long time.
But I can explain...
I read this book Life of Pi for this Knit the Classics Knit-Along. This is a swatch for a Garden Cardi - sort of - little more than a soul warmer and little less than a cardi. There is a mother in the book who is leaving India to live with her family in Canada. When I started blogging I declared to follow the principle "Wear Thy Knitting" and that got me thinking what would I have in common with a mother from India heading to Canada. The climate of course! So this cardi would be something Pi's mother would have had in her trunk. Then I was looking for a color that would remind the colors of India. The color of Curry! This is the closest I got to curry... The pattern is again leaves and I'm making it up while knitting...
There might be plenty of frogging in the near future or if I'm lucky, none! I never win in the lottery, so there must be some luck heading this way. I'm counting on it...
Your socks are fabulous!! They look very cozy and feminine.
ReplyDeleteLove those stockings (both pairs!) and I love your reasonning behind the Knit the Classics for the Life of Pi. Curry colour... gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI love all three pairs of socks - the yellow, the green and the red! Please share your yellow sock pattern soon!
ReplyDeleteAll of those socks are beautiful! I hope you will share the pattern for the yellow ones - my daughter would love them!
ReplyDeleteThe new swatch does look like curry. Great choice.
Hi Lene,
ReplyDeleteYour golden curry color is perfect! It looks like I may need to make another trip to the library for Life of Pi. A summer sweater is next in my queue. I've admired your socks so much, maybe I'll need to learn how to make some eyelets next. I can't decide which of your socks I like best.
Wow...all of your socks are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteOk you can so call that a design!!! They are amazing! Why don't you think about submitting your pattern to the new online knit and crochet magazine "For the Love of Yarn" - just email the editor at editor@fortheloveofyarn.com for a submissions packet.... I can say first hand that she LOVES them already and would LOVE LOVE LOVE to publish your pattern in the April issue!

Hello from Canada! your life of Pi socks are wonderful. all of your socks are wonderful. Your sock model is one very lucky lady to model all of those fabulous creations.
ReplyDeleteYour socks are amazing, and simply beautiful. I'm going to be searching for that book now, I have to make those green ones!
ReplyDeleteHi Lene, I just started reading your blog today! I love all your beautiful socks. I just recently, thanks to the knitting olympics, began making socks myself. I wear them to school to show my students! I'll be one of your regular readers now.
ReplyDeleteWow! You rock! I just added you to my list of blogs-I-must-read. Seriously, you rock my socks. Sorry, it was a long day :D
ReplyDeleteI have to repeat what everyone ahs said: both pairs of the socks are beautiful! The yellow ones are definitely very spring like and I love the eyelets up the back of the green ones. I might have to go pick up Handknit Holidays and make myself a pair!
ReplyDeleteGood luck on the Curry sweater! Can't wait to see it. :)
What a treat to see all these stockings at once! I particularly like the green ones; they look warm and very comfortable.
ReplyDeleteI really love the toes on the yellow stockings. They look very similar to the toe I like to make. :-)

Another Yarn Harlot reader wandering in. I already liked those Handknit Holidays socks and now I think I'm just going to have to get the book. I really like the yellow ones, too. I've just recently learned to knit socks and now always have a pair on the needles. Beautiful blog!
ReplyDeleteI live in Colorado in the US, and my teens will be jealous to know about the Skiing Holiday.
Hello from Michigan, USA, and another YarnHarlot fan. Your socks are just lovely! I am in awe.
ReplyDeleteI told my husband I can never brag about my socks again now that I've seen yours. He says mine are just as nice, but then, he loves me very much! :~D
I was so happy to find your link through the yarnharlot. Love your socks. (especially the green ones)
ReplyDeleteI live in Upper Michigan and am married to a 100% Finn. Ü Actually there is a large Finnish Community here. Someday we would like to make the trip over there. For now there are children to raise.
Love both pairs of stockings! Also love the fact that you were cooking moose - have not had any wild game for years, but remember the taste! I will have to give "Life of Pi" another try! I would call your work "design"!
ReplyDeleteWow, what beautiful stockings! All of them. And my compliments to the sock model -- very effective job of showing off all the excellent qualities of the socks. :-)
ReplyDeleteHow about a full length picture of that adorable "animal" pictured at the top of your blog?? Too cute!!
ReplyDeletei'm inspired! i never wanted to knit socks before -- your gorgeous pairs have changed my mind.
ReplyDeleteyarn harlot sent me over here -- happy to find a new, fabulous, knit-blog!
Thank you for sharing your pictures, Lene. Very pretty socks!
ReplyDeleteI love your socks so much that I've ordered a copy of holiday handknits. I'm even tempet to start wearing skirts just to show off the lovely patterns.
ReplyDeleteI have to say the yellow socks are so classic! Love the way they look!
ReplyDeleteThe socks are lovely! Great job.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of letting a fiction book inspire your knitting!
I love wearing my own handknit socks, but I'm really impressed with anyone who will knit KNEE socks.... and so many! Beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, all of those socks are absolutely lovely. I can't believe you saying it's not a design, of COURSE it's a design! You are very talented. And those curry socks are wonderful. I read LIFE OF PI and liked most of the book, but the ending had me more irritated than charmed. Still, in spite of my love/hate relationship with that book, I positively LOVE the socks inspired from the book. I'd love you to tell me how to make those.
ReplyDeleteOne more thing, what yarn did you use for the curry socks? I really like that color - and those socks.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful stockings!!
ReplyDeleteany chance of you putting together a pattern for those yellow ones? they're lovely!
ReplyDeleteHi Lene! I loved these socks so much I was inspired to make them as well. I posted a photo of them here:
