The First Mittens

A view from the front door:

It started to snow last night. It was snowing when I went to bed, it was snowing when I got up this morning and it was snowing a moment ago... But now it has finally stopped.

The shawl has almost 500 stitches on a row at the moment and it is still growing. I did not realize that adding on few rows to the first stitch section would lead to this amount; adjusting the second and third pattern sections requires again few more rows... Maybe in the end I can wrap the whole house into it...

There are mittens on this tree and not just any mittens.

These were done by my twins at the age of 12 as school projects which is now two years ago. Before these mittens Daniela had finished a garter stitch scarf but Nadja had not knit anything. The pair on the left belongs to Nadja and the other one to Daniela. Since then Nadja has completed another pair of mittens and Daniela has socks on the needles...

But now excuse me - there is some shoveling to do.

I think it is safe to say that we will have a white Christmas.

  1. Good Morning!
I just love your dolls mittens and socks that your Mother made for you and the reminiscing story of your youth.
Your Girls are quite talented too, very nice mittens they made.
I am glad you chose to continue working on your blue shawl, I was wondering if you where going to continue it or not.
It is looking very pretty. I like the next row of patterning you just started. It still looks like a very complicated pattern to me.
Your determination inspires me too. Maybe one day, after more practice I will attempt to learn to knit a fine lace shawl.
I hope you don't mind that I mentioned you in my blog this morning.
